I've been doing research for my Holocaust Class and it said that the average amount of food that a regular concentration camp victim got was 500 calories. Eventually they would die from such lack of food.
People in camps were fed very little. They got weak vegetable soups and sometimes a bit of bread. In some places they might grow a few vegetables. The standard meals in concentration camps consisted of thin soup with added cereal and some cabbage.
Which sounds like 500 calories or so.
So this is interesting that we as dieters and Eating Disorder People consume similar amounts of food as people did in those times.

Don't forget the forced labor on top of that.http://www.formspring.me/Jacklinger
Beauty fades eventually, but a kind soul is forever.
It was probably the forced labor being the killer part. As u can live a very long while if not years on 500 kcals without dying. But u can picture burning 500+ Kcals per hour doing heavy labor for 8 hours per day atleast.
And picture running for miles and miles and burning off thousands on a 500 calorie diet--or less.
The parallel here is disturbing, but in a sick way, it makes me happy. Happy to know that I'm doing this to myself. In Plaster by Sylvia Plath
I shall never get out of this! There are two of me now:
This new absolutely white person and the old yellow one,
And the white person is certainly the superior one.
She doesn't need food, she is one of the real saints.
At the beginning I hated her, she had no personality --
She lay in bed with me like a dead body
And I was scared, because she was shaped just the way I was.
