    Default Diet sectio

    Okay, serious question.

Why is there a dieters section on this forum when most of the recent posts on it are responded to it with things like "anorexia is not a diet" and such? I am also thinking of the diet books thread. What is the purpose of this section, if not to discuss dieting?

I mean, I can't diet, I have an eating disorder. But I seem to see people trying to discuss dieting in that section and being treated pretty badly for it.

I don't have a problem with there being a section on dieting...but maybe a clarification of its purpose or mission is in order?

I can definitely see where you're coming from but I see a major difference between eating 1200+ cals a day in a diet and severely calorie restricting.
So, I think the section is for the discussion of healthy diets and have only ever seen those asking for extremely calorie restricting diets getting shit.
Anorexia isn't a diet but Atkins is, you know what I mean?
Edit: diets and ED's definitely don't mix though. So, technically, the section shouldn't really be here.

I’m quite harmless now you see. To you. And now nobody can hurt me on the inside. I have this trick. Anything you can do to me, I do to myself already. And I hit harder than you ever could.

I agree with you 100%. Eating disorders and dieting don't mix. They never will. However I believe there was a huge uproar at some stage when the site was going through a lot of changes. People still wanted to talk about diets and shit and not everyone wanted to recover and blah blah blah. That is how the dieters section was created. If you ask me, I think it's stupid and really shouldn't be there.

Yeah...it's supposed to be healthy diets only (I don't consider Atkins healthy by the way, but it's much better than some of the other shit people try)...And yes it was created for people to go when the site was going less to no pro. People wanted a place to go for their let's rah rah ourselves to death a bit - at least that's what I heard.

I wonder if it's a good place for a HUGE trigger warning even though it's healthy talk only. I don't know...It IS kinda strange. It got very quiet in there when I came on board and started helping with getting stuff deleted and closed.

I agree, Atkins was just the first well-known diet that popped into my head. I stayed on it for 3 years before my ED, god knows what I was thinking, my heart was probably sleeping in a bed made from high cholesterol haha.

haha...well my main concern with Atkins is the lack of carbs, or very low levels of it...I mean, doesn't our brain need carbs to function? "Carbs are brain food" is the way i have always viewed them. You just want the "better kinds" so that your body takes longer to break it down into glucose form. *shrug* maybe I'm off my rocker :P

Ahh yes well, here's the way it works: carbs/sugar are used by the brain/heart/muscles etc to function in Glycolysis. When starvation occurs with very very very few calories or a diet with normal calories and low carbs, the body depletes its carb/sugar supply then has to find another way to feed muscles, brain, heart etc. So it changes the body to Ketosis- using fat for all the processes that sugar/carb was used for.
Ketosis is just as good for the brain with many people actually saying their heads feel clearer. There's some research to suggest it can do damage to your kidneys longterm although its one of the safest ways to lose weight (being in Ketosis) as it breaks down fat, not muscle. When all fat is used, the body starts breaking down muscle into sugar and converts the body back into Glycolysis. So, our brains don't need carbs to function.
The reason I think Atkins is so shitty is because you can literally never eat carbs afterwards. Every carb piles on the weight so its not sustainable. Although its good in theory and when actively doing it.
Oh god, sorry for the essay haha!

Perhaps it's for people who have problems with over eating.....not everybody here suffers the same.
the closer you get to something the tougher it is to see it....
