Wasted book?
I was thinking of getting Wasted by Marya Hornbacher. I'm kinda short on money though so I wanted to ask if it was a good book. Worth buying? Any other suggestions for books on eating disorders?

You might still be able to read it online, I did. I didn't like it to much and I didn't finish it either, just found it too triggering.

I have an audio book version from itunes, and I thought it was very good. But triggering. I had a PDF version of it a few months ago from somewhere on the net... Google it- you might just stumble across it

worth renting at the library. though I personally found her attitude to be quite condescending. like she knows more about everything than the reader could ever possibly imagine. or the impression that shes the shit. maybe because thats how she felt at one point in time? not sure.
i would never bother with a re-read but its an alright book.

I prefer her third(?) book, Madness. Wasted was good, but I felt Madness was 10000000x better. It's not specifically about ED's, but it's very good. I gave my copy to a good friend in treatment, but I plan on buying another copy soon. It's that good.
Also, you can find a free version of Wasted online.

Definetly worth it, it was a very good memoir about her struggles with it and she never sugar coated anything
it gives you a very interesting look inside of the head of a person with a serious eating disorderI became insane, with long intervals of horrible sanity.http://burntpaperhearts.tumblr.com/

yeah, i think so. but i find this attitude to be more self-deprecating than anything, containing a lot of anger (conflicting with some glorification, which is the dangerous part BUT exists to help define a very split self, allowing insight but not overindulgence in the eating disordered self) as she reviews all of the things she used to believe, all the choices she's made and the whole mess of consequences. it's an honest narrative, and i think she was still really struggling at the time, so it's understandable.
i flip it open whenever i want to torture myself with the truth i still don't know how to accept. she lays is bare, really. worth it.Last edited by duck; 02-22-2012 at 11:14 PM.
