    Default Diagnosis?

I'm just sort of curious if you need to be a certain weight to be diagnosed with binge eating disorder.
I want to be so thin, light, & airy that,
...when the light hits me, I don't leave a shadow behind.
When I walk across the snow, I will not leave so much as one footprint to mar
    its virgin purity.
So I can dance between the raindrops in a downpour.

I wouldn't have thought so. I've known people all sizes that have disorders.

Nope. Anorexia nervosa is the onl ED that has a weight reqiurment for diagnosis.

    Ditto Blackeyed.

Although I believe they are in the process of changing criteria for AN. There are many guys and gals out there that meet all requirements with the exception of just how underweight they are.

I don't think they should change the weight criteria, as a lot of the cognitive distortions and paranoia that occur in an anorexic induvidual are caused by the starvation/ low weight itself. BUT I think that the amhemoreria criteria should be changed. I lost a period at a healthy weight BMI of maybe, 21, then got down to a bmi of 14.5, My ex had a bmi of 16 and she still had her period. But she was definately anorexic.

According to the diagnostic criteria, no there is no weight requirement. But I dont think any therapist would ever diagnose someone with BED who isnt overweight. Regardless of the behavior, if you are underweight or normal weight they will assume you are a non-purging bulimic.

How would someone go about being diagnosed with BED? I am almost 100% sure that I have it but I don't know who to tell. This has been happening since I was very young so it's weird that i've just now realized it's not normal.

You can't actually be diagnosed with BED, at least not in the US. It is a type of EDNOS.
