Default Best diet for consistent weight loss?

Right, first off I know that I need to exercise and eat healthy otherwise it's not going to be good for my body. I want to start developing good habits towards food, not my current ones which tend to be intense restriction then a period of binging, before going back to restriction again.

I've been stuck at the same weight, give or take about 5lbs for the last year and a half - seriously. The only time I ever dropped a decent amount was when things really went down the drain and I didn't eat for two weeks. (Long, long story).

I think a lot of my problem is I really really struggle to eat the same thing over again - and I'm on limited funds right now so buying veg/meat is a problem (I know, I know...)... I'm trying to get better at this whole eating well and being fit thing but it's just so damn hard! Equally I find that if I exercise and eat over 1200 cal a day, even having a net of 1400, I gain immediately. If I eat around a net of 800 cal I will slowly lose - like a pound a fortnight. If I eat less I get very sick very quickly and obviously it's not good. I would love a consistent loss of about 1.5lbs a week, you know, a healthy amount.

Another problem is that I have a cheerleading competition in two weeks time and my skirt is too small - it fits but it looks disgusting. Do you think I've left it too late to do anything about that? Or do you reckon with a lot of effort and time over these next two weeks I could have a few inches off my arse and thighs (without overdoing it and making myself ill)?

The problem with recommending and completely laying out this diet is that most will not stay at the 10 days, or will use this as a sort of crash diet.
