    Question Control

Does any one have suggestions for how to stop a binge when you recognize what is happening?

-I was doing really well this week until I got stressed out about some exams and the past 3 nights I had awful binges. I want to learn self control so I can feel good!

    Thank you guys for helping!

I usually go up to my room and close my eyes and really think about what I'm about to do.

I've even locked myself in my room before.
I want to be so thin, light, & airy that,
...when the light hits me, I don't leave a shadow behind.
When I walk across the snow, I will not leave so much as one footprint to mar
    its virgin purity.
So I can dance between the raindrops in a downpour.

It's a common thing for students with exams to increase their food intake, and other habits that involve the mouth, such as smoking. I don't know why, but this stress just does it. Obviously the best thing to do is just revise and crack on with it, but it's so much easier said than done. But keep healthy, if you're going to binge, do it on a pack of grapes or something

If you have the tendency to snack during studying, I recommend drinking water or diet drinks while studying...and if you have to eat something, munch on lettuce or carrots. I have TMJ so eventually the chewing of the carrots would cause me pain and I'd have to stop..haha.

I'm not flawed, I'm just an excellent example of being human.

The best advice I can give is to drink as much water as possible. If you drink large enough amounts of water, you won't be able to fit any food in your belly even if you are hungry.

Binging is 99% mental for me. I read a great quote the other day that really hit me -

Saying “I've already ruined my limit today, I'll just binge” is like saying “I dropped my phone on the floor, I'll just smash it til it breaks.”
For me, binging occurred most of the time because I'd already had a minor screw-up so I just said "fuck it" and binged. Once I realized that a minor screwup was NOT an excuse to just full-out binge, I've been able to control them.

That phone quote really resonated with me... that's exactly my thought process when I binge. Thanks for that - I will try to remember it the next time I start binging and think I shouldn't stop.

To save myself from binging, I usually try and keep my hands busy. Say I'm on the computer, and we all tend to snack unconsciously while on the PC I try to keep my hands busy such as: drawing, tapping, snapping a rubber band on my wrist, doodling etc.. Having a can of diet coke, a glass of water or keeping some healthy snacks on you can help too
