    Default The Skinny Bitch method?

I'm halfway through reading Skinny Bitch, by Rory Freeman and Kim Barnouin, and was wondering if you guy had read it and what you thought of it?

It claims that it is completely unnecessary for humans to eat meat and dairy products, and that corrupt government health agencies, as well as approving contaminate products for consumption, only encourage their consumption to bolster capitalist society.

I'll be honest, it's got me questioning a lot of things I thought so far... I already knew about the whole aspartame thing: it's an additive that converts to formaldehyde on consumption and is linked to numerous horrifying side effects, including Alzheimer's, lupus and blindness. It was denied government approval 7 times before being allowed after the FDA commissioner took a high paid job working at the inventor of Aspartame's law firm... Hmmmm. And this dangerous additive is freely used in big brand Soda and diet soda drinks, including coke. Look it up. Aspartame.

So yeah, knowing about that kind of government bullshittery makes me wonder how much more in this book is true?

It's totally stupid to say it's unnecessary for humans to eat meat hahaha. Even if you're a veggie/vegan for thousands of years humans have eaten meat and needed the potassium and other nutrients from it!

It is not necessary for adults to drink milk - that much I totally agree with the book. When I read the book I was a vegan (and studying bio-chemistry). While some of the facts in the book were right I did feel they were not the whole set of facts and there was a strong environmental motivation behind the book.

For people of certain blood groups (such as the O groups) it is actually very very hard to be vegetarian let alone vegan because their body is perfectly designed to get the majority of nutrition from animal fats and meat. Other blood groups such as 'AB' come from areas where people haven't eaten meat for thousands of generations and very rarely eat dairy (mainly Indian where the Hindu's never traditionally ate meat and dairy was a luxury).

Yes meat and dairy is bad for you if it is the main part of EVERY meal - which it is for most people.
Yes aspartame and a lot of additives should be banned.

While the book was good in challenging what advertising and standards boards tell us is good nutrition it is also very extreme.

When I was a vegan, everything I ate was organic and fresh. It did make such a difference to my health - I was totally detoxed. I couldn't keep it up for more than three months though. After a while I had to go back to being just a vegetarian. I think there has to be a happy medium - you really can not really avoid dairy and additives 100%

Yeah some things don't work for everybody , I'm a bloodtype A so I feel really healthy on a vegan diet and its much easier to maintain my weight. But sometimes it's hard to transition into major food changes , and to this I say to each it's own. Happy mediums are the best , extremes are unrealistic .
You can never put your life in another persons hands . Why you ask? Because humans are not perfect , eventually in one way or another they will let you down ; its not sad it just is. I only I am the master of my domain , wherever I am now I put myself here.

    blindness?! O_O

I put aspartame on EVERYTHING. i drink like 3-4 diet sodas per day.

Now i'm freaking out i already lose my mind easily, alzheimer won't really change the thing, lol.

Ok that was so off-topic sorry.

I'm a vegan (sometimes forced to eat fish), and i do it for a lot of reasons e.g: i'm against animal slaughter and i worry for environment (and i know taking aspartame are just chemicals, it sounds quite sarcastic)

But Humans have been eating meat since a long time, i mean there were no processed stuff/fabrics,
and that's why meat was good in that times,
now meat is filled up with nasty hormones and all kinds of useless/harming things!

happytapeworm: i'm bloodtype A too! they say a lot of people that has this bloodtype may have problems with lactose or milk/cheese etc...

The best is to grow your own veg, fruit and ETC... Let's become all farmers.
Be careful with your thoughts, they can start an action.

Wow, you're vegan? Is that difficult?

I used to be a vegetarian a few years ago, but it was when my disorder was at its worst, so my parents 'politely informed' me that I was no longer vegetarian... I'll go veggie again when I get to Uni (NOT for dieting reasons, but for health and animal rights reasons) and I never really have many dairy products anyway... Other than the occasional yoghurt.

But yes!! We should all be farmers. XD I mean, you can't really even trust things that say 'organic on them anymore, because it's not very strictly regulated... I have mini allergic reactions to some brands of fruits/veg, especially celery and cherries, but not others... All I can think is that it must be the additives and fertilisers used by some growers...

Meat and dairy are not the best things to eat. Yes they are high in protein, but they are pretty low in everything else but fat. Other sources of protein like greens, grains, and legumes have protein and fiber, and many more vitamins and minerals.

Also meat takes the longest for your body to digest, and many people have digestive problems. Meat has been proven to increase risk of all sorts of diseases.

Think about it further than thousands of years, the first humans. They wouldn't spend all day trying to catch an animal and then spend even longer cleaning it, skinning it, cooking it, preserving it; when they could just walk into the forest and grab some fruit, veggies, and bugs.

Some of the biggest and strongest animals in the world like elephants, giraffes and gorillas eat a veggie diet.

I think the book is an awesome first step into learning about eating a whole natural diet. I also think it is a good eye opener for people who are not informed about how corrupt the FDA is, and about horrible companies like Monsanto and Con Agra. But you should always do more research than just reading one book. Much of the vegan advice found online and in books is not healthy nutrition info. You shouldnt be eating a bunch of meat substitutes as those are processed junk. Many go vegetarian and end up eating a diet higher in fat. Peta has a website about all the vegan junk food you can buy like oreos and twizzlers, not everything that is vegan is healthy.

If you want to know more about the food industry there are some great docs on youtube: food inc, king corn, and earthlings (vegan). Also just googling Monsanto you will find a lot of scary info.

I've read Skinny Bitch quite religiously back in the day
Even though I live in england and I've been veggie since I was 12, I loved it.

Like Kim and Rory would say 'use your head'!
Of course humans don't need meat or dairy.
if they did, why isn't every single vegetarian dropping dead?

I was vegan for 7 years. No health problems were caused by it. In fact, I got healthier. (All my health problems were caused by my ED's and stress). Had a blood test done almost a year ago and everything was tip-top shape, including iron and protein. There's nothing in meats you can't get elsewhere. (Think you need B12? Your body actually makes it for itself. Need more? Stop drinking alcohol and your body will utilize more. Need more? Get some nutritional yeast. Shitton on B12 in there.)

Oh, and I'm blood type 0+.

I did, however, CRAVE fish until I finally gave in to it 2 years in. So I became a pesco-vegan for the remaining 5 years. In the past couple weeks, I decided to start eating meats again just because I'm tired of having such a restrictive diet and I figure I paid my dues to the environment with those 7 years (and not owning a car). I can have meat once a week and not feel like trash about it. Can't go back to eating dairy, though. Those digestive enzymes are long gone and they're not coming back. Not upset about that, though! Dairy's terrible for you!

I thought I'd start reintroducing meats back into my system with some eggs. Bought liquid egg whites at the store today. Wish me luck! I'm in for a world of hurt!

if you eat nothing but fruits, veggies, wholegrains, nuts and seeds, you'll probably end up in a caloric deficit and lose weight. Howevever, I refuse to go vegetarian OR vegan. WHy? I was veggie for about 7 months and gained weight. Started eating white meat, more dairy and fish? Lost a lot of weight. The foods we should really be avoiding are processed foods and anything that comes out of a box. If you can't imagine how it came from nature to your dinner table, chances are its too processed.
