    Default gluten free

okay so sometimes i'll wake up and i'll be aching and sore and my skin will be sore to the touch and it feels like i'm all swollen all over..

now, i used to think it was because i'd had too much sodium the day before but i'm beginning to think it's actually gluten.

i don't want to go diagnosing myself with a sensitivity to gluten but i kind of want to try going gluten free to see if it helps... my main concern is fiber.. i used to eat bran cereals to get the fiber i need but now i won't be able to eat cereals like allbran and fiber one..so i was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on what to eat instead like, maybe for example

    amaranth
    millet
    buckwheat
    quinoa
    lentils

and also does anyone know of any GF high fiber breakfast cereals besides oatmeal? thanks!! <3

Visit a health store and you should be able to find a gluten free section there. I also know that Sainsburies does their own 'Freefrom' selection when you can get gluten free cereals and bread. They also do other things like cakes! But there are plenty of other stuff, you just have to check the ingredients to see if it's free from gluten.
You can also get plenty of fibre from fruit as well as dried fruit and nuts.

My anorexic friend just found out she is has a gluten allergy...so it could be that. I would try to go gluten free and see if it helps.

Don't just try things and eliminate types of food. That'll just make your eating worse. Go get it checked you.

i have a gluten intolerance.. like if i eat gluten my stomach swells up very badly (i look heavily pregnant - it's that bad), the pain is excruciating and impossible to get rid off. my skin comes up in red blotches everywhere and it stops me from going to the bathroom.

there are gluten free options that can be found in the supermarket, but really, it's best to get them online because there is more of a range. all gluten free foods will normally have less fibre in than "normal" foods, but you could try gluten free toast in the morning? what you could try doing is cancelling out the five glutens one by one because this will tell you if it's completely gluten or say.. just wheat. sometimes people with gluten issues can still eat things that contain oats so try that out and see if you get anywhere with that.

This was exactly my fear too when starting a GF diet! I tended toward the constipated side (sorry TMI) even before the anorexia started, but to be completely honest since I started eating without gluten I've been able to eat more--don't feel gross all the time--and when eating an extra 500 or so cals a day, it is surprisingly easy to get enough fiber! I also cut out dairy at the same time, and many dairy-free milks have a few grams of fiber in them, so that helps. Dairy-free coconut-based ice cream is also really high fiber. But if you're just eliminating gluten, try eating Beanitos chips (or something similar, I don't know where you live)--yummy, filling, and 5g fiber per serving. Also lots of beans. When I started eating GF I mostly tried to replace what I had been eating with the GF equivalent, but now it's been about 2 months and I'm shifting toward just eating things that are naturally GF...and it's never been easier and I've never felt better!

    Good luck!

Yeah, I too have also been feeling sooo much better from eating free from gluten. The range of GF alternatives is pretty good most places, but I've not been eating everything thats 'GF' just because its 'GF'... I've become a lot more health & nutrition conscious (in a good way... before I was pretty clueless & lived off 'lowfat' processed additive-filled refined sugars) & I'm def feeling better about what I'm eating & feeling much better in my body.

Saying that OP... don't use the GF thing to eliminate more food groups from your diary, cos that is NOT gonna help. Just make sure you're doing it for the RIGHT reasons

I doubt you have a gluten intolerance. When I used to binge without throwing up, that's how I'd feel the next day. If you're eating wheat products, you're most likely consuming gluten, anyways, but I'm sure you already knew that.
Try it, and if it doesn't work, you'll know why. You could also be underconsuming the wrong amount of nutrients. In all honesty, oatmeal is not very rich in nutrients aside from maybe, what? Thiamin? Awesome. Oh yeah, and fiber. WHOO HOO!
Then again, I don't know how you eat your bowl of oatmeal...
    I'm insane,
    And I fuck great danes.
