    Default Slow cooker recipes

Anyone have any tasty, healthy slow cooker recipes?

I'm sick of making the same one thing in mine (sausage casserole)!

Any recipes that are easy to do/don't have a lost of thousands of ingredients will be much appreciated

Also, do you put it on low or high and for how long

    Thanks!

I'm making my child's new favourite since she's not feeling well and it will encourage her to eat: Pasta sauce. Warning, the house will smell fantastic and therefore will drive you crazy!

You can put in whatever you want, like peppers, onions etc. but my child is at that stage where things have to not have the lumps of veggies in them even though she loves veggies by themselves. A mini-me who doesn't want to mix shit together lol.

Ok, take a pound of ground beef or turkey (both are fine, but beef is way better and I prefer the regular as well evne though it's higher in fat...it's just better tasting)...brown the meat, and while it's doing this, add in some garlic, as much as you want, I do what feels right at the time usually about 5 cloves. I would normally put in some onions but again, the kid...

Once it's all browned and shit, stick it in the slow cooker, dump in one big can of pasta sauce, one small can of crushed tomatoes and season as you like. I like Oregano, Marjoram and Basil and I usually put in too much, but then I add some sugar later to offset it. It's Fantastic.

Then cook on low as long as you want, I would go at least 3 hours. Just get it stewing. Justbefore serving, maybe the last 10 minutes or so while you're making the noodles, put in some fresh shredded basil. It's fantastic on angel hair pasta, my fave texture for this meatsauce!I'll probably have this stuff on low for 5 hours today. My kid complimented me like crazy when she had it telling me that I cook "good" lol was so cute.

    Thanks, it sounds good!

What type of pasta sauce do you put in with it?

Whatever you have on hand. Hunts plain, Hunts flavoured, Classicos...whatever you like the taste of...or you can make your own but I'd have to try it for amounts and spices etc.

My fave thing to make is chicken chili

    1- onion chopped
1- 16oz can on black beans
    1- 16oz can kidney beans
    1- 16oz can of corn
1- 8oz can of tomato sauce
    2- 14.5oz can of diced tomato w/chilies
1- 1.25oz packet of taco seasoning
    1-2 chicken breast

What you do is put everything into your slow cooker and then you put the chicken on top and you cook it on low for 6-8 hours. It is soooooo yummy!!! You can add more things to it but just so you know all of what I said just fits into a normal size cooker so if you add more things you will need to cut out some or 1/2 them.

**I forgot to say that once your done cooking the chili you just use a fork to shred the chicken into little bites and mix it all together.***

Try ground chicken white chilli! I made it for my family just yesterday, and they loved it. They ate it over rice. And my dad NEVER eats chicken, only fatty pork cuts and beef, so this was rare.
1 pound ground extra lean chicken
    1 cup onion
2 garlic cloves, chopped fine (I used 3)
    1-2 tsp cumin seed
    1/2 tsp ground oregano
    1 can navy beans
2 cans great northern beans or white kidney
1 cup white corn (frozen or canned) or regular corn
1 cup chopped red bell pepper
1 cup chopped sweet green pepper
2 green chilli peppers (if you like it hot)
    2 cups chicken broth
    2 tbsp lime juice
Put the chicken, broth, garlic, onion, herbs in and cook on high for 3 hours. add everything else (other than the lime juice) and cook on low for 3 more hours. Add lime juice and sour cream if you want it creamy, take out the chilli peppers which have drained their hotness by now. Or you can just put everything in and cook on low for 6 hours, adding the lime juice in on the end.
NOTE: if you've ever used cumin in the slow cooker before you know that it is way too strong until it cooks for a few hours. so don't be alarmed lol.

Also one of the favourites here: middle eastern lamb stew, BUT this one requires some actual cooking too and more ingredients, so not that convenient.
1 1/2 pounds boneless lamb stew meat, (shoulder cut) or 2 1/2 pounds lamb shoulder chops, deboned, trimmed and cut into 1-inch chunks
1 tablespoon olive oil, or canola oil
    4 teaspoons ground cumin
    1 tablespoon ground coriander
    1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
    1/4 teaspoon salt
    Freshly ground pepper, to taste
1 large or 2 medium onions, chopped
    1 28-ounce can diced tomatoes
    3/4 cup reduced-sodium chicken broth
    4 cloves garlic, minced
    1 15- or 19-ounce can chickpeas, rinsed
    6 ounces baby spinach

Place lamb in a 4-quart or larger slow cooker. Mix oil, cumin, coriander, cayenne, salt and pepper in a small bowl. Coat the lamb with the spice paste and toss to coat well. Top with onion.
Bring tomatoes, broth and garlic to a simmer in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat. Pour over the lamb and onion. Cover and cook until the lamb is very tender, 3 to 3 1/2 hours on high or 5 1/2 to 6 hours on low.
Mash 1/2 cup chickpeas with a fork in a small bowl. Stir the mashed and whole chickpeas into the stew, along with spinach. Cover and cook on high until the spinach is wilted, about 5 minutes.

I usually throw anything I've got in my slow cooker but it's usually along the lines of:

Some form of meat (usually whats on offer) like lean pork chops browned the put at the bottom. Some chopped up potato or sweet potato, carrots, onion, parsnips etc. A pint of chicken stock. I cook it on low for around 8 hours - sometimes more due to not getting back from work till late - about 20 mins before I am going to eat it I throw in some sweetcorn and peppers...

    Done and delicious!

We sometimes made curry stew, we put leftover meats (chicken (legs or breast) lamb, whatever), some quinoa and lentils, leek, potato, (sweet potato is even better) curry paste (madras mild), carrots, celery, onion, green onion, etc. oh and water and a thickener until you get a consistency you like. (add the thickener at the end)
mix up to taste, simmer all day while you work or study, and serve with a bit of greek yogurt, bananas and shredded coconut. mmmmmm.
