    Default Anorexic & Bulimic Confusion

Okay, I'll probably get a lot of heat for this, but I feel that I really need to rant a bit.

I wish everyone can be honest with themselves as to what ED they have and own up to it.

I hear a lot of BEDs that insist they have anorexia/bulimia, not only does their weights give them away (mostly heavy people.) But most of them thinks that if they call themselves anorexic/bulimic then they can magically lose the weight. What they fail to understand is that "being" anorexic/bulimic is define by a person's behavior, ie heavy restricting, purging, exercise, obsessive calorie counting etc, and NOT by what ever label that is slapped on them.

If you are heavy, and not happy with the way you look, then lose the weight through healthy eating and exercise. Calling yourself anorexic/bulimic will not make you lose weight, and trying to "learn" the behaviors of an anorexic/bulimic will not make you lose weight, because the underlying problems (binge eating) is still there.

I would be mad too! That was really insensitive to say that in front of you.

I hate labels to be honest. I know I have a eating disorder but I'm not going to waste my time labeling it because I don't meet all the demands on anorexia or bulimia, so it's better just to face the fact that I have an issue and try to deal with it.
And I take back all the things I said
to make you feel like that
And I just wish that I didn't feel
like there was something I missed
And I take back all the things I said to you

And I give it all away
just to have somewhere to go to
    Give it all away
to have someone to come home to

I am with you..... I cringed to think that I have an "eating disorder". Its almost like the label itself will become a self-fullfilled prophecy. I just say I have "bad eating" habits.

But the point I was trying to make is I find some people would SELF LABEL themselves as Bulimic or Anorexic and thinks that's enough for them to lose the weight... without actually take actions

I know what you mean, and its not like you can get it from saying it. Almost like those who say you can change if you put your mind to it because its in your mind. I wish it were that simple because I would just eat normally but I cant hard as I try. Here is the only place I can talk about it though. no one else understands.

Life is really about achieving the unachievable. Perfection in every way will lead me to the perfect day.

Same. I'm not quite anorexic, not quite bulimic...I just kind of float around between the anorexia, bulimia, and EDNOS boards just reading/ commenting on things I relate to and ignoring what I don't. I refer to it as my "unhealthy relationship with food" and leave it at that.
A still more glorious dawn awaits.

Yup. If it's an issue I can relate to I read/comment. I mostly just read all the stuff that pops up in "New Posts" regardless of what board it's in. I tend to cycle through bulimia, EDNOS, orthorexia, BED, restricting, etc... Basically my eating is all but normal 95% of the time and I'd have to relabel myself everyday. I think people should be allowed to comment on whatever posts (or parts of posts) they feel they can empathize with or provide some insight on. Obviously, if they are lying, or exaggerating and attention-seeking, or in denial, that's another story. But eating disorders are often very complex and your current weight is often not a good indicator of what you are experiencing emotionally. (kind of off topic sorry)

Anyway. I agree with you. Labels should be applied carefully... but people can label themselves whatever they want, we don't necessarily have to believe them!

I was diagnosed with restrictive type anorexia, but right now I would probably meet the diagnostic criteria for bulimia. But whatever, labels are a bunch of Bullshit anyway. One thing I can't undertstand is people competing for the 'anorexic title' as if it's desirable or something. WTF.
