    Default Competition?

    Hey all. So I kind of assume the answer may be yes for some of you, but do you find yourself getting really competitive when you work out? Trying to go faster, harder, longer, than the person next to you? I know it's kind of stupid, but when a girl gets on a machine next to me, I always have to try to do more than she does. I wasn't sure if anyone else had this or if you can give advice as to not be so competitive? I want to enjoy my workout and do it for myself, not feel defeated.

    I do this all the time. I'm extremely competitive and have some really bad jealousy issues and I cannot stand wen someone is doing better than me, I have to be the best. Even when it's something as stupid as how long I can run or how many crunches I can do.
    "I refuse to remember the dead.
    And the dead are bored with the whole thing
    But you-you go ahead,
    go on, go on back down
    into the graveyard,
    lie down where you think their faces are;
    talk back to your old bad dreams." -A Curse Against Elegies: Anne Sexton

    I know exactly how you feel. When I'm with my best friend, and I see her eating or doing something that might burn calories. I am secretly counting her cals and mine to make sure that I'm eating less than her and I find any excuse to do something more active than her just to make sure I stay ahead. It makes me feel terrible as I love her to pieces and she doesn't even care about that stuff so it's only a competition with myself. The best way to avoid it is to not look at other people. If I don't watch her while she eats or if I just think about how the workout makes me feel, I'm not comparing myself to anyone.
