Bone scan....
So a few days ago I had a bone scan and didn't go well.
Had one 4 years ago when I was reffered to the B.A.U and it was very low normal which they expected because of having courses of steroids for asthma. However the one I had the other day was alot lower and now I have been diagnosed with Osteopenia which is the stage before Osteoporosis.
The doctors have given me some strong calcium and vitamin D3 supplements but they are going to see if the can put me on stronger ones but they are unsure because of my age.
It made me feel really upset because even when I was at my worst I still drank skimmed milk and things, I've tried so hard with this recovery but it just seems to be getting worse, oh and to make it even better my mum has the same condition and its common in females her age because she's 52!
Anyway, I was wondering if anyone else has had or has this too? see the doctors said it can be reversed within the year but after that it can't be.
Thank you and hope everyone is doing okay out there. The thought of reaching perfection, always seems to out-weigh the risks of being perfect.

I was diagnosed with severe osteoporosis at the age of 20; my bones were not much better than those of my 90-something gran who also has bad osteoporosis. That was nearly seven years ago, and I'm at a "normal" weight now (though currently losing and not so healthy in general, regardless of my weight...) and I take calcium/magnesium/vitamin D supplements, but I honestly don't know if any of my bone mass has been restored. I don't have a family doctor at the moment and thus haven't had much extensive testing of any sort, including bone scans, in the past few years. I do know that I have absolutey terrible joints now that swell and ache like those of someone 50 years older than me, which really sucks.

Anyway, I really hope you fare better than I have. Continue taking your calcium and vitamin D supplements for sure, and whatever else your doctor recommends. Stay well.
now every feeling, it kicks me to the bone
and takes me under to a place that i have known
there goes my quiet life i used to keep me warm
in the shade of this moment, i am born

I had osteoporosis and a couple of years after being *mostly* recovered my bone density had been restored to almost normal. This is great, but this doesn't happen for everyone. And despite it being normal now, in the long term your bone mass still suffers. Females reach peak bone density at around age 30. Because my body spent years rebuilding the bone density that had been lost through my ED, my peak bone density at 30 will be a lot less than what it would have been if I had been healthy.
If you eat healthily and take supplements (and you are still young) there is definitely a chance to recover bone mass.
