Thread: Supersize vs SuperSkinny

It's important to remember that not all disordered eating means an eating disorder like anorexia or bulimia. A lot of people have disordered eating, but it's just a mind set that can be changed, and that goes for over and under eaters.
A person with an actual eating disorder has a mental illness.. not just a mindset. The superskinny's are screened and part of that would be screening for eating disorders. They have also had people come on, who he has recommended look into eating disorder treatment because after seeing them in the clinic, he could see that there issues might delve into that realm.
Just because someone undereats and is underweight doesn't mean they have an eating disorder. It just means they have some form of eating issue... which can be fixed more easily than an actual illness like an ED.
I hope this made sense, as I'm still finding it hard to focus.
~*~ I am lost, floundering in a sea of broken pain. The pain of not being a twig, a tiny glass skeleton in beautiful clothes and make-up. A glass skeleton without an inside... who's eyes are dimmed with darkness... the darkness of too many sleepless nights, too many hurtful words.. too many doubts. I miss her. ~*~

Haha this is my new favorite show.

I've also noticed that the super skinny never eat below 1000 calories a day. I think it's just them eating 1200 calories a day for such a long time that they get so skinny.

^I think a lot of them are really picky to the point it's almost disordered. It probably doesn't help that they get called 'super skinny' as its probably pressure to stay that way

Suicide of love took away all that matters
And buried the remains in an unmarked grave in your heart

You're so right. When I used to watch this at the height of my ED I used to be convinced all the superskinnies had eating disorders- how can anyone be that skinny without having loads of control? I didn't realise that some people just don't think about food all the time- they may not find the time, or may just not enjoy food that much. Just because someone is really thin doesn't mean they have an eating disorder.
It's kinda hard to understand how someone doesn't really think about food when it's all you ever think about.

As much as I like this show I hate the diet swap. It makes no sense at all.
Nobody should eat as much or as little as they do so the diet swap is ridiculous.
It's hard watching it, because my mum's usually around and she's always commenting on the superskinny's e.g. eww that's disgusting, why would anyone want to look like that, she looks nasty....It's funny she doesn't have nearly enough things to say about the supersize people....The worst pasrt is when the Anorexic segment comes on then she starts saying they are disgusting, they should just eat, they should stop being so stupid...She gets really mad at them and I get really mad at her, but I hardly ever say anything...A few times I've snapped and defended them. She's a Mental Health Nurse so she should be empathetic, but no chance.........One time I was so mad I said to her, YOu're a MHN and you're saying such rubbish I don't even know how you're working as one if that's the things you say. She said, if I worked with people with ED I'd force open their mouths and force them to eat until they are fat...I was so furious. I couldn't believe it & I still can't.Last edited by HiLz; 01-23-2012 at 10:24 AM.
