    Default c and s - calories?

    Hey!

I know I have already seen the other thread on chewing and spitting that has been opened shortly before mine. But I have a more specific question to it.

I know for a fact that c/s reduces a large amount of calorie intake... But after researching it on the internet I can hardly find any direct answer to my question... maybe you people could tell me more.

How many calories actually manage to survive and get into the body?

Even if it isn't known precisely in science yet I would like to have a rough idea on a percentage. I keep having the feeling that only about 50% manage to survive.

Does anybody know more than me? Or can even prove his/her theory?
I don't go up to you and tell you you’re fat and need to diet, you don't have the right to tell me I'm skinny and need to eat.

I don't think it can be many, especially if your head and throat are tilted downwards and you don't swallow anything. But I'm no doctor and all I know is from high school biology and Wikipedia ><

Saliva digests carbohydrates, but since you're spitting out most of the saliva anyways (Source 1)...Since some people apparently use alcohol soaked tampons to get drunk because mucous membranes absorb it, and the mouth has mucous membranes, some calorie absorption could happen there too - though I'm assuming you don't hold it in your mouth for a long period of time, so probably not many calories there either, and most are absorbed in the small intestine (Source 2, 3). I've heard it can increase insulin levels, which apparently causes weight gain, unless you exercise afterwords (Source 4)

Oh, and apparently c/s can help your memory (Source 5). (???)

Based on all of that, I'm guessing ~5 - 10%.

    Sorry for the research paper-ness.

If you don't swallow any of the food your body can't use any of the calories. A calorie is just a unit of energy, not an actual physical "thing". If a food has 100 calories, that means that when your body digests that particular food you get 100 calories worth of energy from it. If the food never makes it past your mouth it cannot be properly broken down and none of it can be used for energy. I guess depending on how careful you are you might end up swallowing a little bit of food, but the amount would be insignificant.

I've read that c/s can lead to weight gain, though. When you chew your body assumes you're actually going to eat the food and produces insulin. Since you aren't, and don't need the insulin, you end up with too much of it. Excessive insulin raises your appetite and makes it harder to lose weight. I think that's the only way you can gain from c/s. Maybe you should eat something you feel comfortable with right before or right after c/s-ing so the insulin doesn't just build up.

I agree with liux; I've always heard it's around 5-15%.
We should ask Ritesh or a mod to sticky this thread. This question gets asked all the time, and this time it got some pretty detailed answers.

Hey! I answered a similar thread a few months ago, so here's my input on the subject.

First of all, digestion and absorption are different. In order to be absorbed, most nutriments need to be cut down into smaller molecules, as others need to bind with co-transporters in order to go through our intestinal mucosa.

Digestion does start in the mouth. Partly mechanical (chewing) and partly chemical (enzymes). It is then continued in the stomach with more mechanical digestion (churning) and more chemical too (protease and HCl acid). In the mouth and stomach, very few particles are actually able to me absorbed into our bodies.
As for the mouth, certain medicinal ions like nitroglycerin given for angina can be absorbed sub-lingual. I’ve also heard that ethanol can be minimally absorbed in the mouth too, but it is an insignificantly low percentage. Anyways, now let’s talk about the stomach: there is very little absorption there, as its purpose is digestion. Water and certain ions such as aspirin as well as alcohol can go through the gastric mucosa. As for the alcohol, I read about 20% of it is absorbed in the stomach, and the rest in the intestine.

Absorption only really starts in the small intestine, mostly in the jejunum.
Now that being said, I'll just say there’s really no point in taking laxatives as it will only help evacuate the colon faster. No nutriment absorption takes place in the colon. Only water and ions are reabsorbed there. Therefore, laxatives dehydrate the body, induce electrolyte imbalances (dangerous) and do not eliminate any calories.

In conclusion, unless you swallow, you will not absorb any calories. BUT, certain foods that are very sweet or liquid will mix with your saliva and eventually be partly swallowed anyway.

The PROBLEM with chew & spit is that is triggers the release of insulin, which promotes the storage of the circulating glucose, therefore lowering your glycemia (blood sugar level). This is because our body is expecting the blood sugar to go up soon, since the food would normally be swallowed and absorbed later. But oups, that's not what happens in this case, so The blood sugar stays low. Hypoglycemia increases food cravings... which can trigger a binge. The thing is your body won't just experience a mental craving, like the need to binge in order to cope with what's bothering you. It triggers a state of physiological hunger, much harder to deal with. I think the main reason people say they gained weight because of chew and spit is because they ended up eating more overall. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Also, it makes your parotid, submandibular and sublingual glands swollen up (they are responsible for saliva secretion) which is why some people say it makes their face puffy.

I hope this answered many people's questions about c/s.
    xoxo

it depends, if you spit out EVERYTHING, including all your saliva then you will clearly not take on any calories, but that is extremely difficult, so I'd guess at around 15%

i love how u just assign a percentage at random, when you have no clue. I too arbitrarily assigned c/s a percentage. Though I'm as careful as can be in a session, I assigned 20%; just to be safe even though i'm sure it can't b that much. ED ppl are a weird bunch...
