sore throat anyone?

im purging once or twice a week
sometimes a bit more i have to admit
but lately my throat hurts.:(
i dont know if its maybe because im catching a cold soon
or is it because of mia?

plus, does anyone know if this is a pro-mia-ana page
or is it of support?:confused:

When purging, sore throats are going to happen. It is likely it's from purging though.
I happen to have a cold and a sore throat from purging which makes it 5 times worse ha.
About your second question, I guess its a bit of both.

The reason that bulimics/mia's get sore throats is because when you use your fingers to throw up(or other various objects) it scratches the back of your throat. your nails scratch along with if you use another object. the best thing to use to possibly calm down sore throat id a plastic spoon but keep in mind get a thinker spoon and not one of those easy to break dollar store ones cause they will break and cut your throat. also you have to get used to the acid, believe me we all hate it but after awhile it doesn't hurt so much i promise.

I would think the stomach acid that u are bringing up would cause irritation and pain. Do any of u take a stomach acid reducer suck as omeprazole? This medication requires a prescription but there are many over the counter ones that are effective such as ranitidine (zantac). I don't condone the practice of purging but i can't see the harm in trying to make it safer.

hi there! it's definitely stomach acid and also you have to think that you're constantly dilating and contracting your oesophageal muscles when purging (especially if you've binged beforehand and not just eaten a normal meal) so that's bound to strain.

I would say this is more of a support site. Some people here want recovery and others don't. It's support for everyone and although this sounds kinda pro ana/mia it's more like helping you to do what you're doing safely. Pro ana sites are a bit more full on than here i reckon.

hmmm. I don't think Shadow is really looking for a pro site. just confused about what this is, which is easy if you're new to the forum thing. I thought this was pro when I came but since looking at what other sites are around there are some pretty horrific ones.

I think the way it works is first you scratch the skin open with your fingers when you purge, then the stomach acid enters the wound when you throw up. My throat ache usually disappears after a day. Short fingernails help.
