View Full Version : Lack of motivation and will power - help?

Hey guys

Was just wondering... I am sure we can all relate to the feelings of numbness and depression and hopelessness that come with our various EDs. Yet I find that, whilst I do obsess over everything, I find that the lethargy and lack of willpower affects my ability to exercise. Even when there's an opportunity I sort of lack the confidence or willpower to just "go for that run" and was wondering how to combat this?

Of course it's also related to my lack of interest in every other aspect of my life, such as my struggles with academic work atm as well...

.... any thoughts for improvement?

i know just how you feel, but i will try and give a few tips to help :

1) Get into a routine, and just like routines and habits, its the first push thats the hardest, after that though, it gets easier and you will probably get to a point where you need to do it to make you feel good. Like sex, it takes a while to start enjoying it, but once you do you can't get enough :) (plus, if you go on top its a pretty good workout in itself haha)

2) Have pictures of fat people wherever you tend to be laziest, so that you can look at it and say to yourself, ahh.. so This is what all the fat people do? i don't wanna be fat, better get up off my arse and move.

3)Thinspo pics as above, i look at mine and say thats the sorta person i wanna be, i bet she goes running every morning, thats why she's glowing... blah blah..

4) Find some sorta excersise you enjoy, whether its walking your dog, or going to a dance class, whatever it is, even half an hour, can make a huge difference, especially if your bodies not used to much cardio.

5) If you really really cant get yourself up to excersise one day, try to keep moving, whether thats fidgeting, cleaning/tidying (my favorite but i love organising), walking to your friends house, anything that makes you move.

6) get an excersise buddy near you to plan going out with, you wouldnt want to let them down?

7) get a buddy on here that can txt you and push you to go out and move :)

8) dream of all the successful "healthy" people out there who you aspire to be (for me its people like charlotte off sex and the city, or people who are in control that you see jogging every day) and just aim to have as much control and self discipline as they do.

9) Remember it will speed up your weight loss and as that is your ultimate goal ...

10) it will get you laid... the fitter you are (i dont mean looks wise but that too) the better sex you will have, and people are attracted to sporty people. just look at cameron diaz!

11) just do it! you will be glad you did.
