Hmm- IDK about the multi vitamin thing. I've been taking Centrum Multi, fish oil, vit B complex for two years solid, and just recently started Biotin tabs and my hair has shed out probably 50%. It comes out in thick strands- it's crazy. It just really got shedding a lot about two months ago. So my experience with the multi vit. hasn't amounted to much in saving my hair.
I've learned that iron is important. I'm going to find a multi with more iron, specifically. But iron is a fat soluble vitamin, I think- so be careful not to OD on it!
Rogaine is another option. My p-doc offered to Rx Rogaine and I think I'll take her up on the offer.
I learned the reason our hair falls out is b/c the hormone that causes shedding increases and the one that causes regrowth stops. It's from starving for rapid weight loss. The body's way of conserving energy.
PS Try not to lose weight rapidly- I think it makes shedding worse. I lost 22 lbs. in three months. It takes a month or two for the change in hair follicle hormones- I think that's why it just got going strong two months ago. Corresponds with my rapid weight loss.

Yea i know what you mean, i was taking a hair and nail vitamin for a while but i didn't see any change:( [it had Biotin in it]. Doc:OZ [on tv] recommends a DHA supplement which contains [fish oil or something fish eat i forget] it's supposed to be good for thinning hair and makes it shiny. But I think Rx Rogaine sounds like a great idea:), you should give it a try, i think i might talk to my doc about and hopefully i can get it.

when my hair started falling out and thinning, i cut my hair really really short. it's so short, i don't have to brush it so the brush doesn't yank out hair. also, it's a lot easier to take care of so i can make it look healthy without much time.
i know short hair isn't for eveyone, but it worked for me.

Fatty- Yeah, I'm going to ask her about the Rogaine at my next appointment, which is Friday. I'll let you know how it goes, if you want. When she first suggested it I thought, "OMG isn't that for balding men????" So I said I'd think about it- I had to get over the shock factor, I think. Now I just want to save my hair!

I wish I could get away with short hair. I look terrible with it. I have the exactly wrong shaped face for short hair. :(

Rogaine sounds like a good idea too, im gonna ask my Dr about it too.
ive recently added a 2nd centrium tablet, 2 fish oil, 6 vitamine E, have been doing 2 B-150 (its a B complex you get at GNC), and just started taking 2 acidophilus tablets a day.
changed my shampoo and conditioner to matrix.
i was told not to use really hot water on your hair, use a cooler water.
and i have long hair, its falling out and i look terrible in short hair too :(

I've actually been struggling with this a bit too, but my mom's a doctor and told me that folic acid (you can buy it in a pill by itself or its in prenatal vitamins) is supposed to help strengthen hair and nail beds. I've also noticed that switching to pantene long and strong shampoo and conditioner has helped, and I have a friend that swears by using a full and thick shampoo.
