Dear insert-name-here,

I'm sorry, but here's something that no one else had the guts to tell you: You are an idiot, and you need to stop pretending you have an eating disorder.

I've never been one to judge, or call someone a "fake," "wannarexic" or any of the other derogatory terms for those who fake having an ED. But, I'm sorry, this just has to be said. Why do you want to have anorexia? Is it glamorous in your eyes? Do you want to be thin like Insert-skinny-celebrity-here? Do you think that being skinny will give you more friends or popularity? Let me tell you the truth.

Anorexia is NOT glamorous. Anorexia is pain. Anorexia is wanting nothing more than to have control over your body. Anorexia is starving and passing out. Anorexia is watching the numbers on the scale go down, just not fast enough. And if those numbers go up, anorexia means self harm, depression, etc.

When you're anorexic, it's not all about being popular. In fact, it's the exact opposite. Friends are the enemy. They tempt you and try and get you to eat. They want you to be fat. They criticize your (non)eating habits. So, after a while, you cut them out of your life. It's just you, ana, and maybe an ana buddy.

But, most of the time, those Ana buddies turn out the same as the others. It's a competition. You can't be happy for your Ana buddy when she weighs less than you. It's all fake.

Anorexia isn't beautiful. Anorexia is having your hair fall out. Anorexia is looking 10 years older than you really are. And all those clothes you can fit into? Forget about it, because you won't wear them. You'll be to ashamed of yourself, and you'll know everyone will be thinking, "Why is she wearing that? She's so fat!"

So, you don't want to be anorexic, do you? So, you think that bulimia is for you, right? You can still eat. And you'll loose weight, right? And your hair won't fall out, and you can still have friends, and be in control. Hah, think again.

It's just as bad. All you can think about is food, and how this time will be different. You can fast. You can do it. But then, the image of ice cream creeps into your mind. And, that's all you can think about, is that carton of ice cream in the freezer, calling your name.

So, you go eat the ice cream. But that's not all. Then, you reach for the cookies, and then the soda, and then the chips. And, within 15 minutes, you've eaten enough for 3 people, and you're in pain. Physical pain. You're stomach feels like it's going to burst.

So, you purge. But, chances are, you won't get it all up. You may gain weight, and you probably will.

When the numbers on the scale go up, you eat some more, because food is comfort. And, when your damaged gag reflex doesn't work anymore, you panic. And go to drastic measures to get it out: toothbrushes, spoons, laxatives and diuretics. But, we all know it's all in vain.

Bulimia is rotting teeth, gaining weight, sore throats, bloodshot eyes, chipmunk cheeks, bloating, the list goes on and on. Not only is there that, bulimia also is shame, depression, self-harm, mania, and obsession.

So do you really want an Eating Disorder? Do you really think it's worth it to be thin? I doubt it. If you still do, fine, go ahead. I tried my hardest. But, I can guarantee that in 6 months, a year, 2 years, you will be thinking the exact same thing about those who long for ana/mia.

Sincerely,
ED sufferer.

The severity of your argument may offer little deterrence versus the throngs of society demanding that one be slender or become invisible. There are many who will accept what you describe if it prevents complete isolation. Otherwise, ED's would be nearly unknown, because what happy loners care about how big or small they are?

Let's hope all suffering ends some day.
