Is it true that fasting helps to clear up your skin?
I heard that in the first days your acne might get worse but after some time it goes away while fasting. On the other hand, I heard that fasting/restricting harms your skin.

I'm not planing on fasting, just wanted to hear from your personal experience.

Honestly, whatever family history you have with skin conditions is going to be the deciding factor in what your own skin is going to do. So, fasting may help or harm equally.

I'm 24, but even I have adult acne, mainly because it runs in my family. It's hard to determine what may help or harm mine, but that's what my doctor is for. :)

It's in sync with what you eat, as is everything that has to do with your body. I have never heard that fasting helps clear your skin. And honestly it doesn't make much since to me that it would. Zinc is what your skin needs to stay healthy, if your fasting, your clearly not getting enough zinc.

Thank you both.

Mad- neither of my parents had any skin problems at my age, nor does my older sister. I'm not even sure whether it's acne... I don't have anything on my face, just on my chest.
I'd hate seeing a doctor about this.

Bunny- Fasting has a detoxifying effect so I figured it might help.
I don't really know what "zinc" is, I looked it up wikipedia but I still don't get it. Is it like iron?

Zinc, in minute amounts, is essential for life; luckily is it found in most types of food, with the best sources being meat, shellfish, legumes and wholegrain cereals. Pumpkin seeds, or pepitas, are particularly rich in zinc.

It's basically a metal but we do need traces amount in our bodies to live. And it's great for the skin(and more)!

Acne

Another often stated benefit of zinc is in the treatment and prevention of acne. Zinc in the form of zinc gluconate or zinc sulfate is thought to help heal acne blemishes, reduce inflammation caused by acne, and reduce androgenic hormonal effects on skin that contribute to acne breakouts or in other words help regulate the skin’s oil gland activity.

Recently, the zinc benefits for treating acne has been questioned. Zinc oxide, zinc stearate, and zinc sulfide apparently have no established effectiveness in acne treatment as stated by an advisory panel of the United States Food and Drug Administration.

Eating Disorders

Another benefit of zinc is in the treatment of eating disorders. A zinc deficiency has been linked to eating disorders such as anorexia and bulimia since it contributes to loss of appetite. With zinc supplements to replace the missing zinc, a person’s appetite can be restored resulting in weight gain and overall good progress with these types of disorders.

Related to this is the fact that zinc plays a role in the proper functioning of the taste and smell functions in humans, which are linked to appetite.

Oh, thank you so much Bunny.

I never heard of Zinc before.
I don't eat meat and sea-food but I absolutely love wholegrain cereals. I've neglected them recently though, might be the reason for my breakout...

I heard drinking plenty of water helps clear your skin also if you have a bad breakout cleanse your face as you normally would before bed and apply neosporinin to the blemishes and leave it on over night washing it off in the am.

Ive also had a acne problem, and very bad skin. Ive made good progress in a month by doing these few things.

Taking brewers yeast pills(24 per day)
Zinc tablets (2 per day)
Multivitamin (1 per day)

Cleansing face in the morning before work, and after work.
Applying moisterizing cream after cleansing.
Applying 40+ sun screener after the cream.

Zinc deficiencies also interfere with our ability to properly taste food! I did a zinc tincture test when I was really ill and it was amazing what taking a heavy dose of zinc daily did to re-awaken my ability to taste things properly.

No, it's not true.

because I purge I suffer awful skin, as do a lot of anorexics and other ed sufferers.

Drink plenty of water. Tea tree oil dabbed on the spots works well, as does toothpaste!
