I've never really done this before. Eating everything on my plate and even getting seconds sometimes was a habit that I formed in early childhood.
I know I am a compulsive over eater.
I just don't know how to stop the habit. I would really like to lose weight and be healthy.
Does anyone have any tips on stopping when full and fighting the urge to eat more?

Something I discovered worked for me once... wearing a skirt that is too tight! It had a wide waistband that rode up quite high around my middle.. anyway that's only appropriate really if you are going out and anticipating that you might overeat. But it did work for me, heh.

Feeling full always makes me want to keep eating. I hate getting to that point since I know I cant stop. You can always try to fill up on soup and drink plenty of fluids. Sometimes that helps me at least limit how much junk food I manage to fit into my stomach.

Yep fluids are good, and I try to fill up on bran or rye crackers as well, they are low cal but full of fibre and soak up liquids really well.

Drink a bunch of water (or tea/coffee without milk or sugar) before eating anything at all, and continue drinking non-caloric beverages while you're eating. It fills you up and gets you to the point of "I physically cannot eat anything more because it will not fit into my body" sooner with far fewer calories consumed. When I do this, I still feel terrible/look so bloated after eating, but all that nastiness goes away by morning rather than becoming a food-hangover.

I've always been brought up to have seconds too. It was sort of a competition between me and dad, when I was little mum used to joke that I had platefuls as big as him (he eats shed loads)... I found it really difficult to stop eating when full. The tight waistband thing works, as does drinking with or before a meal but what I found most effective was chewing gum. As soon as you've eaten one meal stick some gum in, really minty gum (works even better if you don't like mint). And keep drinking.
I don't like eating after I'm full now because I associate it with discomfort, tight jeans/tops etc. O_o
