So I just came back from my primary care doctor, who referred me to a few psychiatrists for depression and just had some questions for me during the visit. I opened up about the aspects of my depression, but lied to her face about binging, purging, restricting, and body image... I'm seeing a psychiatrist soon to be prescribed some kind of medication, but as far as I know, there's some degree of interviewing/testing beforehand, and I want to avoid the possibility of uncovering my ED.
Anyway, my question:

Have you ever had to lie about your ED in the process of recovering from any other mental illness?

Or if you haven't, and came clean about the ED while orignially focusing on another issue, how did things work out for you?

It's so bad, but I lie to my psychiatrist all the time :( I told him I don't cut and I've never attempted suicide. I revealed a LITTLE bit about my ED, but I played dumb. I never mentioned that I used to purge.

My advice is: if you want to get better, tell him. He isn't there to judge you or scrutinize you. He's there to help. If you don't want help, just don't tell him.
