my parents and i are staying in a cabin for a couple days with my two dogs (brother and sister). earlier today i was snacking on some nuts and the remnants of a bag of barbecue potato chips, and then my family decided to go for some pizza. i finished the bag of chips and left it on the floor next to the bed. my parents and i come back from the resaurant and hear my dog scooter hidden under the bed and breathing very scarily. my dad pushes the bed over to see him and he has the chip bag over his head and he was hyperventilating. we have no idea for how long that was going on. he's not hyperventilating now, just laying down where we found him (hasn't moved). he might have brain damage. i'm so scared and it was all my fault. if i hadn't have eaten the chips, this would not have happened. for most of my life i've had this dog and i love him so much. i'm supposed to take care of him. he trusts me. and his sister greeted us at the front door with a worried face. she must have been so scared. she loves her brother.

i am never going to binge again

i hate myself

Oh man, don't blame yourself! There is a many number of things that dogs can get into that can hurt them. ((hugs)) He's okay though, right? Nothings happened since you've post this?

he's alright now, acting normally. apparently there was a tiny tiny hole in the bag which probably have allowed enough air to get in to keep him alive.

he's an old dog with balance and therefore maneuvering problems so it was too hard for him to get the bag off himself. :(

I'm glad he is doing better! What kind of dog is he?

he's a mutt of some sort... probably a mix of lab with some greyhound. in november he'll turn 15, so he's super old. he has already had something neurological happen to him like a stroke (but vets couldn't confirm). his twin sister's age hardly shows though.

aww soo cute!! Don`t think its your fault!! There are so many normal people leaving chips bags on the floor, (e.g. my brother - and not only 1..) - and like chubbybunny said - there are so many dangers for a dog in a normal household. But if that accident helps u not binging again, there´s at least sthg positive about it..
