If you don't know what a lacto-ovo vegetarian is, it is a vegetarian who allows eggs and dairy in their diet. :]
So if you're a lacto-ovo vegetarian i was wondering what kind of low calorie foods could i eat?
I've been trying to be a vegetarian for 6 months, but since my mom (and i) don't know what kind of foods to get me- i either eat junk food or nothing because my family is really big on eating meats.
I don't eat breakfast or lunch, but just in case i have to sometime does anyone have any suggestions?
Oh, and i have to eat dinner with my family sometimes, so what kind of foods should i eat for dinner?
Don't worry, i'm not stupid, i know all the vitamins i need to incorporate in my diet and i also take a supplement but i just have no clue what foods to eat! /:
Thank you so much in advance xx

staples should dairy (0% is fine) and eggs (whole, since the yolk has most of the nutrients + choline, which helps release fat from the liver), plus various vegetables, moreso than fruit because vegetables have more vitamins + minerals for less calories. beans and lentils too! maybe you can try making dinner for your parents when you have to eat with them? such as frittatas and bean dishes. if they want meat, you can cook up a small piece for each on the side.
breakfast and lunch, eggs are perfect. one hard boiled egg (whole) has 70-80 calories, which is super low, and has tons of nutrients. yogurt too, but stay away from brands like yoplait which add tons of sugar and artificial flavors. i like fage, or if you are in canada or near a whole foods, i love liberte brand yogurt!

if you can find one or two vegetables you like, eat them in large amounts (i love BROCCOLI!). to make them more palatable, you can try sprinkling on some nutritional yeast. i've never tried it before, but i know a lot of vegans use it for a cheesey flavor and it has lots of b vitamins. (not recommending actual cheese for you cause its pretty calorific)

I would recommend as a new Vegetarian you buy.. well they are two of my favourite books. "Becoming Vegetarian" is a book that tells you every piece of nutritional, dietary info you need. Including telling you good reference on what foods are good for what nutrients. Also there is a fantastic, simple to use cookbook that is relatively easy to low-cal-ify any of the recipes. It is called "1000 Vegetarian Recipes"
I became a vegan a few months ago so I never use my copies. I wish I could just send them to you since I don't need them. I bought the vegan version of both of them.

Spinach is a great and healthier base for salads, as well. And if you don't like veggies, try them a new way. Cook them if you don't like them raw. Or steam them. Or make them into a stew.
I also like snacking on low-fat string cheese. :)

You don't need any vitamins! In fact, You need less vitamins than a meat eater! you just need to eat the right foods, Meat eaters need multivitamins because meat is low in nutrient density! vegetarians don't, the only thing you could consider taking is vitamin B12 but you can get that from mushrooms, marmite, milk & eggs so vitamins are unnecessary unless you want to take them for your ED.
I was raised as a veggie, i'm vegan now & I am studying to be a dietician. x
Chewthin. x
I'm not a vegetarian, but I try to eat as healthy as possible which excludes a lot of meat.
Chick'n patties (fake chicken) are yummy and meat-free :D low-cal and filling too, but idk about nutrition.

first off? represent. I don't drink milk, though. And I prefer eggs if they're cooked into something or I can't see them usually. <3 Soymilk.
Anyway I personally love raw broccoli myself, too. You could always ask your parents to get low/no fat cheese and put that on stuff.
Sometimes for breakfast though before a test or something I'll put some eggs in a bowl with (maybe some of those imitation bacon bits if it's a splurge day) or some chopped spinach and green peppers/onions/cheese and microwave them for a couple minutes and it's a lazy omelette. lol not the prettiest but it keeps me full and depending on how much/what kind of cheese I use or if I gave in to adding "bacon" bits it's not all that calorie-y.
Also morningstar farms sells a whole bunch of cool stuff. Dunno if you tried their stuff but they have their own bacon, and if you cook it right (otherwise it tastes gross) its' great for protein in the morning and lasts a while if you're keeping cal count down. They also sell pre-cooked meals like lean cuisine stuff. Not many, though. I've just seen them there's like sweet n sour chikn and lasagna I think. Maybe something else.
Thats what I eat anyway =/
