I am especially seeking guys who binge eat. Binge eating among men is very under researched. If you would like to help improve the information we have about male binge eating please consider doing this survey. Thanks.

My name is Katy Hill and I am a researcher at Deakin University, Australia.

I am conducting an anonymous online study to investigate the connections between binge eating, and a number of emotional factors such as anxiety and depression.

The survey will take you about 15 minutes to complete. The survey is open to both men and women.

If you are 18 years or over and interested in knowing more about the study please click the link and you will be taken to the survey site. At the survey site you can read more about the survey, and if you choose to, complete the survey anonymously. This survey has ethics approval from Deakin University, Australia.

Hi Katy,
Alot of the girls and guys post on this site (including myself) because we feel safe talking to others in the same situation as us, it will be hard for people who dont deal with using the four brain cells that are functional each day just to calculate how many calories we have eaten to understand but because you are an aussie (so am i) and im at Central Queensland University. I think that your research i purposeful and may infact help some people understand what exactly triggers the binge/purge ...problem that can be so draining and overwhelming physically and mentally... I cant exactly tell you because im not a binge eater i more or less eat healthy then fast (or eat a restricted calorie intake) then eat healthy again and the cycle starts again. But my triggers are usually a comment made that was not intentionally malicious but just as damaging and it could be as small as wow you ate that whole bowl of icecream or those jeans are nice and tight on you... or just looking in the mirror :(etc.... but i would say if you can handle it just read some of the posts maybe some people will have the courage and feel like they can trust you enough to speak up, i respect your honesty and wish you the best of luck...
mon :D
ps... you will surely have people that oppose you but dont let that get you down because it would be nice to know what you find from your study and i think some people would appreciate it if you kept us posted..

Hi mon, thanks for the advice and the encouragement!! :D

Binge eating is an interesting topic, I've researched it quite a bit and have had a look at some threads and its been very interesting to see it co-occuring with cutting behaviours. In my mind they are so very linked as ways of coping with intense emotions and feelings of unreality. I can understand that, while in the long term they become a significant part of the problem, in the short term they can offer some people a release. Very seductive - like bad relationship maybe?

Good luck with your studies too!!:p:p

Cheers, Katy

PS I really need some more guys in the sample...any one interested? :D
