I know my teeth are going to start rotting soon, I throw up ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING I eat and I eat a lot.

I'm not ready to stop though, even though I hate it, I need it to stop gaining weight. I can't stop it before I control what I eat.

Anyway, does anyone know a way of slowing down the damage caused by the acid? I wash my mouth out with water every time obviously, but I don't brush because from throwing up 5-6 times a day this would do more harm than good to brush that many times.
Anyone?

i just quickly brush my teeth after i throw up. idk if that helps it at all but at least the acid doesnt stay in your mouth for very long.

how much do you weigh? if u dont wanna say thats ok

I wouldn't worry too much about your teeth you should be more concerned about your body..Surely your teeth will become damaged anyway if you throw up all your food as you wont be getting the calcium and that to keep them healthy and strong. Please look after your body. You are worth it xx

I was 8st 2lb when I posted this thread.
Since then I tried to stop - I had a really good weekend, my boyfriend and I went on a sortof mini-holiday to london and spent the whole time going to gigs and also the 02 festival (ie ate nothing but junk). I didn't throw up once, I was so happy.

Today I came home, and what a suprise, now 8st 4lb. My head went straight back down the toilet. These are the reasons people can't give up, you stop to have a normal happy life for a few days and you become ugly again. I hate it.

I know, I hate it too - you try to stop it and live a normal happy life and then put on weight ... and panic - I don't know how to deal with that either. I always freak out. I always try the positive calm thinking blah blah blah but it just does not work sometimes. It's really difficult to accept that your body changes. ... The worst time for me is when I have my PMS - then I put on weight even when I don't eat! And I find it really difficult to control myself as I can not concentrate. Then I have a really difficult time. :( ... but what to do? How to go about it?

DON'T BRUSH YOUR TEETH AFTER PURGING!!
Use a mouthwash specifically designed to prevent acid erosion (I got some off my dentist) each time you throw up.
Buy a toothpaste specifically for preventing acid erosion too but DO NOT use it straight after purging, you will be rubbing at already weakened tooth enamel. Use a mouthwash to rinse your mouth clean and wait as long as poss before cleaning your teeth properly.
Also avoid acidic drinks like orange juice and pop after purging but go for milk, for the calcium.

Easier said than done. We can't all just stop like that so it's best to know how to minimise the damage.

teeth rotting is a very real problem with bulimia, im 22 and have already had to have two teeth pulled and another 2 are heading the same way from acid errosion - i was only bulimic for 3 years! thankfully iv gone back to being a pure ana but i couldn't just sit back and let people tell u that its safe, or that the risk is low when it really isn't. and encase your wondering until i decided to start throwing up i had never once had any problems with my teeth - not a filling or whitening, they were perfectly healthy teeth.

take stomach acide reducers. They won't eliminate the problem but they will slow it down. omeprazole is an excellent one but requires a presription. Ranitidine (zantac) is effective and can be bought over the counter. Just remember not to purge until the drug has been absorbed into your system.

u could substitute a calcium supplement to help strengthen your teeth. Make sure the calcium sup has vitamin D. Without vitamin D the clacium will not absorb into your body.
