I think I've said this before but I would kill to have a stomach like yours.

I don't know if exercise will make you lose muscle, but at the moment I'm running up anddown my stairs to tone my glutes and thighs... maybe walking would help?

the only thing I can think of for withering muscle is NOT exercising... I doubt that's an option though

Stop exercising. Starvation. Your body will eat away at itself. It doesn't matter how much cardio you do, you're still developing muscle. Stop altogether.

well that's really supportive, or maybe the word i'm looking for is triggering. but maybe you meant starve the muscles of exercise (i hope)

starving-beauty: please don't take this the wrong way but i don't see much muscle anyhow. all i see is lean skinny minnie perfection. u can also try avoiding proteins

oh and i just wanted to say that exercise boots the metabolism. so refraining would be a catch 22

Dammmmmmmn girl!!
You look great!

I dunno about being so worried about muscle. To be honest, I don't see anything out of proportion, you look so skinny and great to me! :D

The only way I know to get rid of muscle is to stop working it so much. Maybe switch up the type of exercises you do? I liked the explanation in "Escape your shape", where it takes about working and resting the parts of the body depending on how you want to look.

You could trying stretching more? Stretching lengths muscles out, so try adding in intense yoga and stretches.
Stretching helped my calf muscles a bit. 14" to 13" (though I'm not sure how much of that is the weight loss) And I can almost touch my toes now!

if you try to lose muscle and succeed, it will be very easy gain weight with even low calories. anorexics already have lost muscle, and trying makes you lose tons more. and that's why when people who are skinny/normal bmi develop anorexia they often go to a low weight, then end up larger than they were before.

and p.s., i don't see very much muscle on you. if anything, you should gain some because in the end it will make you skinnier by increasing metabolism, so you can lose weight easier.

I think you mistook my comment hun. I'm just being honest, I'm a qualified fitness instructor and distance runner. If you want to lose muscle, then you cut out exercise. Don't give your muscles the opportunity to develop. The starvation part, well, she's on an anorexia forum, asking this question, I don't think I did too much in terms of triggering. Plus again, she wanted to know, it's the truth, you want to lose muscle, then eating pretty much anything less than 500-600 calories, stop exercising, you will lose muscle. Your body will have to feed itself by eating away at it. Muscle will be the first to deplete then it'll be fat.

One more thing I want to say, I don't think you have that much muscle anyway. From the pictures, you're not that developed so I don't think you should really be worried about muscle.

weightlessrunner is correct. however, when i read your post, i was picturing someone built like jessica biel or michelle rodriguez. someone with a lot of visible definition and large muscles. then i saw your pictures. you are beautiful and very thin and don't need to change at all. however, i would not say you're in the muscley group. so don't worry! you look great as you are, and you are totally not muscley.

hun, you are absolutely right in terms of getting short term results. but not in regards to long term health and maintained results... so yeah

Oh of course in the long term it's not sustainable. Realistically there are two destinations with anorexia - death or recovery. If you engage in starvation for long enough, it will lead to the former and when the time comes and we realise that whatever our disorders are about (whether it'd be a reaction to loss, for aesthetic purposes, feeling of self worth etc) and choose to recover, then our desintation is recovery.

Starvation is by no means sustainable and of course I realise that but I'd also like to think that none of us will be plagued by eating disorders forever.

You are absolutely gorgeous ! Green-eyed monster sitting behind my screen ...
How about yoga ? It stretches your body and it does give you a workout so you don't feel guilty about not doing cardio or whatever. I also heard that swimming stretches out the leg (especially thigh) muscles so that might help.

Though actually I don't see the problem. You look incredible, honestly you do.

As mentioned before, if you lose muscle you will slow your metabolism and gain fat. Your muscles will eventually decrease anyway as your body uses them to maintain itself. Maybe it's a good thing that you have something for your body to consume rather than the muscles in your heart; although I'm not entirely sure it works that way. Best of luck and be careful xx

I don't think there are any exercises to help you LOSE muscle though...

All exercises build muscle. Muscle wasting can only be accomplished by NOT exercising.

BTW you don't look masculine to me at all -- you look really feminine to me.

To lose muscle, you have to not pump your muscles when you exercise, so for instance if you wanted to lose thigh muscle, running is good but exercise bike pedalling is bad, also you need to have a calorie deficit or you will just tone them up. x

>.< You my dear do NOT look like a boy..i on the other hand have very large, bulky arm muscled for a girl. The onyl thing you can do is either stop exercising or stretch to lengthen them. (even though i don't see much of the needed.)

The only muscles I find nasty on a woman is really muscular arms.
WHICH YOU DON'T HAVE!
Your arms are skinnyskinnyskinny!!!!!!!
You've got some abs though ;)
Those are a good thing

You're not too muscular at all though!
