View Full Version : Can asphyxiation give you permanent damage?

Every time I suffocate myself it actually seems to get worse and worse... I'll be hallucinating (well sort of) a bit more, I'll be dizzier and less able to stand, sometimes I'll completely and utterly forget where I am, and it'll take me like 30 seconds to remember! And I think I even passed out for like a minute, today...
(Lesson learned: Do not suffocate yourself while half-underwater...)

I'm just wondering/worrying if this is gonna damage me forever... And also, would it ever do anything visible? Like... Well, I dunno. But I feel like I could keep doing this forever and no-one would find out. Does it give you brain damage or something, though? :S Even if none of you know, I'll probably end up finding out anyway...
(Also I could just Google it...)

Thanks for reading! :D

I'm not sure, but I don't think you can suffocate yourself for long enough to get permanent brain damage. You would pass out before then. But please be careful, and if you feel it's getting worse you should just stop.

yes it does. the damages may go from simple tissue damage (depending on how you do it) to nerve damage and brain damage. id say asphyxiation isnt any less dangerous than most substances used to get a similar high in that damage may build up over a long period of time or may be acute.
i hope youre taking care of yourself :)

Alice,

Didn't you ask this before? And I posted some info saying how it indeed can cause permanent damage. Did you forget? I really wish you wouldn't do autoasphyxiation. People have died from it.

Not true. Just like Jack said, you can die. No brain damage, no passing out, simply death. All it takes is once. You're honestly lucky you haven't died already, it doesn't take much.

But if it doesn't kill you, yes, it's slowly--make that rapidly, is destroying that thing called a brain.

You can get perminant brain damage from it, and you could also die. It's really a lot more serious than you might think. You should really be careful.
