If I had a boyfriend or girlfriend that was abusive, someone who hit me, suffocated me, yelled at me, insulted me, tried to poison me, and made me feel horrible about myself, wouldn't people care? Like, my family would be sympathetic, they'd be on my side, they'd care.

But my hypothetical abusive girlfriend is myself... So I guess that's not as important to them...

That just randomly came to me last night at about midnight... I think it makes perfect sense.

I think it's probably because people who aren't self-destructive can't fathom how we do this to ourselves. They can't understand why we'd hurt ourselves so much.

When they look at you, they'll see the good things that you miss. For example, if I let slip a comment about hating myself and being so fat...people say "don't be ridiculous". They can't see the flaws that I see. (Or at least, they don't see them so clearly).

I do know what you mean. If I treated anyone else as badly as I treat myself, I expect I'd end up in prison!
