So today is my first day to "purge" So I decided to jump on the web and get more info on what to do. I am 180lbs 5'3"....I am really wanting to loose weight and stick with something this time. I am going to start the Ali weight loss pill tomorrow and I am also going to start laxatives and maybe a diuretic, I heard OTC are hard to find. My question is how quickly do you notice results from "purging"? I dont really bing....I often eat more than I need to but I dont go on some eating spree either. Today I forced my self to vomit after every meal. I dont want this to turn into a addiction but I have read that once you start it is hard to stop...I am thinking that if I take the pills and purge then I will loose weight quicker....I also plan to do some exercise as far as going for walks and getting really active with my 3 year old...ya know play alot more tag and running around etc....soooo here are my questions all by them self :-)

How quickly do you see results?
Will I loose weight more quickly while taking pills and purging?
Has anyone every done this long enough to get to their goal weight?

any advice, tips, etc would be great!!! Thanks!

The results of purging depend on how fast u purge ur food, and on what kind of foods u purge. Ive found that cereal, porridge, fruits vegetables etc are really easy to purge up and all so not too much stays behind. However chocolate etc is very hard to purge up and a lot of calories will stay inside. Taking laxative pills is useless tho. Ur body will digest the calories and nutrients inside the food before u manage to shit em out.

Dear elizabeth_ann_85,

Bulimia is an Addictive Disease, not a weight loss programme! Some of us may have started that way, but now it's too late, we can't stop.
I am under-weight and still can't stop.. it's horrible!!

Please don't start b/p. You can lose weight with diet and exercize. That's good... Bulimia is very bad and very dangerous!

Wow - with all those things (Alli, laxatives, bulimia) you are really planning a full-on assault on your body and your health...

Why don't you just try one thing at a time and see what works best? Alli is supposed to be very effective depending on your starting weight and eating habits.

I really don't recommend bulimia as a weight loss method. Sure, if you can't help overeating on occasion (like at a meal out with friends), it can be helpful to make yourself vomit it out. But you will be better off just doing a bit of exercise and sticking with the Alli program.

Bulimia can definitely get addictive, and honestly, once you get into binge/purging, it's really not efficient at helping you lose weight, in fact some people even put on weight.

Good luck with reaching your goal weight!

I'm 5'3 and used to weigh about the same as you. I lost all my weight through exercise, and just being mindful of proportion sizes, I did it the healthy way. Took a bit of time, but well worth it in the end.. and it totally worked. It's only now that I lost all the weight, that the binging and purging kicked in. Because I was so scared to put the weight back on, I started purging after 'bad' foods to try and maintain my new weight, and maybe even lose more.. But it went from purging after 'bad' foods, to basically after everything I put in my mouth. I really wouldn't recommend purging as a weight loss technique, it might work initially...but eventually it becomes ineffective. I am now gaining weight through my binging and purging, not losing. If I can give any advice, it would be DON'T start. It's become an awful addiction, and would give anything to start all over again and not started it. I am so tired of worrying about food/calories/weight. It's slowly ruining my life, I'm failing university, and now even my teeth are becoming so badly decayed. If you can, try the exercise/diet way of losing weight. It does work.

just eat a healthy/ier diet and get exercise

all that other stuff is just gonna fuck you up and will not help you lose any long lasting or significant amount of weight (alli however i have no idea)

purging most likely will only lead to a cycle of binging and your body rids only a fraction of the calories..so if you are binging loads of calories before you purge even if you get 'all' or 'most' of it out you are still taking in calories. you start digesting calories as soon as the food is in your mouth. bulimics are usually average weight, and more likely to be overweight then underweight. underweight bulimics are those that take in an insufficient amount of calories and purge that.

laxatives and diuretics are horrible for your insides and will not cause you to lose any long term weight. not worth the trouble and either is purging. reconsider and just start a healthy diet that doesn't restrict. have your fave guilty foods every now and then and stay active. enjoy your life.

Hun,

I know you posted this a while ago, but I really feel I need to tell you...
So, effects? I read that with purge you lose about 50% cal, with laxative less than 10%...so really not that effective. It is not a diet, people slip into this, maybe I had a choice, but probably not, 1 and 1 is 2, right? I was very skinny when I started and wanted a way out (clearly bad choice), and you know, behind every ed, there are a lot of emotions we don't understand and put them into our food, well, at least that is true for me, you don't really chose, you get there bc of other problems, so please, stay healthy by eating the right thing, and some exercise, and the truth, yes, it stops working...and you feel miserable...
so hun, you're beautiful, stay healthy!
