What are good ab exercises? I have a lot of trouble doing crunches. They always end up hurting my back before I start to feel any burn in my abs. (i don't know what i'm doing wrong. I push my back into the floor and try to breathe right and stuff) I try doing the 'on your elbows with your legs out' one but I'd have to do it for a long time before i felt 'the burn'.
Anyone have any good suggestions?

I do pilates abs, its very gentle on you body but gives you an awesome burn at the same time! I love it, it actually had fast results for me to, unlike regular crunches! (ha i sound like a pilates commercial) but seriously i swear by it.

try yoga - not the slow and freaky kind but one that's fast passed and aimed at burning fat and toning the body like power yoga,u can get the dvds to do at home or go join a class, some work on specific areas like abs, bum, legs, arms ect. just doing 10-20 mins a day will make the world of difference and really help with hunger pains as well.

I agree with doing the pilates ones. They don't hurt your back and are fast and work every ab muscle!

Yea pilates is great! I follow the winsor pilates programme and they have a brilliant exercise which i always do if I don't have long and can't do the whole DVD. Lie flat on your back and raise your legs to a 90 degree angle and then gradually lower them until you have to make a real effor to keep them in the air. Lift your head off the floor and then pump your arms by your sides and just keep it up for as long as u can. u can really feel it working. bare in mind u have to pull in your tummy muscles whilst doing it.

:)Yeah thats the 100's they r awesome! The one I do is the one where you alternate legs (one bent....one straight) and first 10 you do normal then you do 10 touching your ankles on the outside then the last set u do no arms holding anything!:D Do 5 sets of these every morning!

Try Latin Dance.
It's seriously fast, easy, and fun.
I do it, and people state that you can lose up to 10 pounds a week.
It didn't take long at all for me to see amazing results.
You're working your core, i.e.; your abs, thighs, butt, and lower back.

I have an ab roller, it really hurts the knees if you don't use the pad thing it comes with.

CARDIO! Last summer, in addition to a high fiber diet, I had an 8-pack. I ran for about an hour (sometimes more, sometimes less) six days a week on average. It definitely helps :)

Instead of crunches, have your legs at about 80 degrees (a little lower than perpendicular) in the air, knees almost straight, and rise up to touch your toes without bending your knees. make sure your shoulders lift and don't lay all the way back down. It puts less stress on your back because it rounds out your back so it's constantly on the ground. also try hanging from a bar and raising your legs straight out in front of you. it's good for lower abs.
and cardio is definitely awesome for lean-ness and muscle tone, so is fiber (for flatness!) the best combination is always cardio/resistance/nutrition.
