So every so often I eat these "Uncle Ben's Mexican Rice" I count it down as the amount of calories it claims it has in it which is 250g and the calories in it are 416... But I wanted to only eat half of it today so I decided to measure it out on my scale into two 125g portions... BUT! ! !, It weighed 275g and not 250g ! ! !

that would make the rice 458 calories, which is more than I am willing to eat in one meal by far so now I need to know, do you think the packet is still correct where 250g contains 416 calories & 125g contains 208 calories and the packet claims it is 250g even though my weighing scales says it is 275g.

Have I been eating over or do you thin the packet still contains 416 and not 458? help?

I'd say that packet was just a once-off cos theres no way all the packets that say 250g have 275g, the company would lose money by doing that. That packet was probably just filled wrong - I'm sure the other packs you've eaten were the right weight and so had the calories it said on the pack. If it worries you a lot, just weigh each time in future to make sure it's 250g :)

Wow that sucks I just cannot find any explanation for that :(

Oh but I just thought of something! When their quality control people are checking the calories in a pack for the nutritional info, they have to use EXACTLY what's in the pack or it wouldn't get past the standards guys! So the cals must be based on what's in an average pack!

Anyway, don't let it stress you out what's past is past, don't worry! *hug*

omg, i get why you are scared! i had a pack in my cupboard and iv just weighed it and got 275 too.

i think that the packs probably all weigh 275 just to be on the safe side, because if they weighed less than 250 someone would notice and the company would get into trouble?

what i would do is just weigh everything from now on.. in fact i may start doing it too.

i think if you use the cals per 100g you will get the correct value, dont use the per portion one.
when they test the cals they have to be accurate weightwise on the 100g one.
