View Full Version : Is there anyway to recover and still be skinny?

I've been holding myself back from recovery because I do not want to get fat.
I'm not under-weight or anything right now, I'm at a pretty decent weight I guess.

Is it possible to still eat reasonable amounts of healthy food and still recover from an ed?
or do you just end up turning into some fat monster.

I want to get better,
I'm tired of this.
I don't want to make 8 years of suffering,
7 1/2 is long enough.

-sigh-

You need to go really slowly if you don't want to gain weight. Add 100 calories for example, and do this for at least a week. Up the calories until you are at maintenance. There will probably be an initial gain, but this will level out unless you start binging. Also, doing exercise to tone and build muscle will stop you from gaining weight as your added muscle will burn lots of calories. Just don't go overboard on the exercise - 3 times a week is plenty.

Also, recovery will not make you fat, anyway. It's about being and maintaining a healthy weight and mental state. It doesn't matter if you gain just a little bit, as you will be so much happier! Maybe go and see a counsellor or phone a helpline to get started :]

I don't think you will become fat through recovery, if you take small steps as ddl said try to exercises to build up muscles, eat healthy and add slowly more calories and try to find a daily intake you feel comfortable i.e. may be something around 800-1000kcal and once you're there try to keep that amount for some months.
I don't know whats your daily intake atm but I guess to go slowly to 800 or 1000 won't make you gain that much especially if you keep on eating healthy and working out on a regular basis.
Besides that do you consider to get some "professional" help as well ? I think there is nothing wrong about it because you can find out how to cope with stress, emotions and so on without bingeing and so on. May be they can even help you to find how you got your ED and how you avoid to relapse ,if that is possible.
Also I guess they can help you to see you in a different way, I mean a healthy one and to accept you as the lovely person you're and may be they can even help you to become truly happy.
I wish you all the best.

Yeah thanks guys.

The last time I tried to "recover" all I did was think oh if I gain weight I'll be fine
But I realized there's a lot to the mental side of it. /silly me/
I have to wait a week or two till the doctor gets back from holidays so I'll have time to think about it
and also find a new therapist.

My main goal is to just eat "normally" so I don't binge at 1am
and get some of these terrible thoughts out of my head since they're destroying my life.

i tried to recover a few months ago and didnt become fat..i put on 10 lbs in muscle weight though. but i knew it was muscle because my jeans got marginally looser, not tighter - i was still a size 2 at that point. i was working out 6-7 days a week for about an hour each day, and was actually happy with myself (im one of those people that actually enjoys exercise lol). i just then went overboard with it and turned recovery into a bingefest....as long as you still maintain healthy eating habits and exercise you wont become fat.
but i would recommend using a tape measure rather than a scale to account for the weight gain in muscle. or go by how your clothes fit maybe
