I have been on the pill for around a year now and hate how much weight I have gained (approx 7lbs I reckon). I have contemplated coming off it but tbh I don't really want to as my periods came every 2 weeks and lasted for 8 days!!! It was just horrendous, at least now I know when they are coming. But has anyone else had this problem??
What did you do??
It's just making me eat more than I should :(

I have the exact same problem. I have gained a lot after i started using the pill, but I can't stop using it. I started on the pill because I never knew when I would get my period, it had its own life. With the pill I have more control.. but it is idiotic with all the weight gain. I don't know what helps, I guess it will stabilize and then you can loose it again. =)

apparently after a while you stabilise so you wont continue putting on weight.. with me i lost it again after the first year or so.
but if you stopped taking it you'd have to try just as hard to lose it as you do now.
the pill also protects you from some cancers...
the benfits outweigh the negative in my opinion!!

I got went back to the GP and told them I wasnt happy with it, they changed the type of pill I was on, and I still wasnt happy. I decided to have the implant fitted and its the best thing I have done :-)

I have recently been to the doctors about having periods every 2 weeks.. its horrible isnt it! the doctor is going to put me on the pill aswell.. which i am really nervous about but im going to give it a go.. so does the pill trigger weight gain then?

If it's bothering you, you should see your doctor about a non-hormonal alternative?
Weight gain is a side affect from your body reacting to the hormones.
Everyone reacts differently to different things.
The first pill I was on, I lost weight. Loads of weight.
Then I changed to the implant, it drove me to depression.
Then a different pill, gave me mood swings, made me fat.
So I'm back with the first now. Try different things to find what suits you best. :)
That is, assuming your in the UK and don't have to pay for prescriptions.
Good luck x

I have recently been told that its best to take the contraceptive pill at night - is this correct or does it not matter as long as its the same time ish each day?
LOL

this sounds really weird but since i've been on the pill, i will only lose weight every other day when i'm fasting or restricting. it's driving me crazy!

i've been on the pill for about 9months and i gained about 30 pounds (13kgs) i didnt even put th 2 together untill reading this.
i also used the pill to skip my period for6months, and became hugly bloated. i just had one in the last week and drop about 8pounds, and my stomach is no where near as bloated (i looked like i was knocked up seriously) now it just looks fat.
i would say stick on it (specially if your having sex) if your to worried go off it after you next period, for a month, lose the weight, then go back on it and fast for a few days. (im planning on doing that soon.) and just try and restrict they best you can. as long as you have control a you should gain to much wieght, if youfind you are (eveyone is differnent, and you dont have much control over hormons) fast for a few days
hope i helped (i've had some drinks, so sorry if it sounds like drunked blabber)

Sorry to bump old thread but must second the Yaz/Yasmin. Yaz is the lower-dose version of Yasmin, lower estrogen, same protestin dosage. The progestin in both Yaz and Yasmin is very closely related to a potassium-sparing diuretic. It can cause extremely high levels of potassium in some people. I've never had that problem.... wonder why. :p
But it's one of the few pills I haven't gained insane amounts of weight on. It's also a 24-on 4-off schedule, so my periods are very light and short, and I'm much less moody.

I never gained weight on the pill. In fact, having been off it for a month or so, even though I've been restricting fairly successfully and consistently (with a few slip-ups) my weight has plateaued, leading me to believe that I've put weight on since o_O

Is that true??? I stopped because the pills I was taking (Lo/Ovral) made me gain TONS of weight. And it did not stabilize. It wasn't even really a problem at first, but it quickly became one. I gained 20 pounds in about 6 months, and I was eating LESS than when I started, and I was 120 for 6 years, never over once in my life, this was the FIRST time I gained weight.
When it started fucking up my period too, I stopped taking it, it wasn't worth it. My dad also told me he wanted me to stop taking it because of how fat I was getting (he noticed in pictures of me he saw on facebook).
And now, I've been off it for 3/4 months and I am barely making any progress losing weight.
If what you're saying is true, I wish I had stayed on it. Jesus. I hate the pill, one of the worst mistakes of my life taking it. My metabolism is permanently screwed I think.

I just went off the pill because the new one I started taking made me put on about 20lbs. Trying to lose it now.

but im here to ask you all about THE GYNO. my love has never been, and i know its important to go.. how should i get her to go o.0? shes not the type to go just because i say its "important" lol i think shes just weirded out about a doctor looking at her bits, though shes got so much pride shed never admit it.
even before she gets on the pill.. she should see a gyno no? im actually quite clueless on this..
