Hey guys. Here's a big ole list of health effects from eating disorders, in case you were ever wondering "what's this called", or "does anyone else experience this?"
Any other ones that you guys can think of?
What are the effects?
Eating disorders are very socially difficult
You can't eat around anyone else
You think you smell like puke, people can tell
You can't maintain relationships
You become isolated, alone, and all you have left is the disorder
Purging upsets the body's balance of sodium, potassium and other chemicals, this can cause:
Fatigue, seizures,
Irregular heartbeat [sinus bradycardia OR disrhythmia OR cardiac arrythmias
Leads to death by cardiac arrest],
Thin bones, loss of calcium/density [osteopoenia or osteoporosis]
Dehydration, leading to
Constipation, bloated feeling, early fullness
All of these STOP you from wanting to eat
Vomiting causes:
Stomach and esophagus damage
Acid reflux, stomach ulcers
Sore throat
Rupture of the esophogus
Swallowing problems:
May need an IV or tubal feeding methods
Gums recede, tooth enamel is eaten away by acid
Spots on teeth, discoloration
"Horse smile", where you can see the roots
All teeth may need to be pulled prematurely
Teeth sensitivity to hot and cold foods
Gum disease and cavities
Sickly appearance
Dry skin, skin rashes, blotches on your face
Broken blood vessels in the face and eyes
Chipmunk cheeks [swollen salivary glands]
Irregular menstrual cycle
Water retention - HIGHER WATER WEIGHT
Cuts, scratches and scars on the knuckles and fingers
As you shove your fingers deeper down your throat, you scratch against your teeth
These scratches hurt as you puke and get infected with the vomit
Ipecac syrup causes:
Fast and irregular heartbeats, fatigue, weakness and trouble breathing.

Laxative abuse leads to:
Worse constipation
Inability to take a shit without laxatives

Slowed breathing, low blood pressure [hypotension], and this causes:
Fainting, lightheadedness, feeling 'dizzy' when standing or getting up, chest pains, shortness of breath, feeling weak
Skin, hair and nail issues:
Yellowish skin from too much vitamin A
Dry skin, rough scaly skin
Swollen or cold hands and feet
Brittle hair
Hair loss
Soft body hair starts to grow for warmth [lanugo]
Chest, back, arms, neck and face become hairy
Hormonal changes:
Reproductive, thyroid, stress, and growth hormones are effected
Menstruation ceases or never begins [amenorrhea]
Infertility
If pregnant:
Birth defects, low birth weight, miscarriages
Higher risk of postpartum depression
Severe heart muscle atrophy:

perfectionism, fear of criticism, always being seen as "good", fear of humiliation, sensitivity to failure
Obsessive-compulsive personality:
perfectionism, morally rigid, preoccupied with rules and standards
Borderline personality:
Exhibit a lot of self destructive and impulsive behaviors
Narcissistic personalities:
Inability to empathisize, unable to soothe themself, need for admiration, sensitive to mistakes, failures or defeat
Mental Disorders:
Depression, social anxiety, panic attacks, post traumatic stress disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder
Self destructive habits:
Smoking, kleptomania, sexual promiscuity, self-harm/cutting, abuse of alcohol, over the counter drugs, prescription drugs, or illegal drugs.
