I'm new here and I don't want to dominate the posting... I'm just wondering, does anybody cut (or burn or whatever) in a very ritualistic fashion? Like... I look forward to it at the end of the day, during and after my shower and maybe later, and can't eat after I've done it until the next morning... even drinking diet soda after makes me feel somehow impure.

Well obviously I have an E.D. too but I was wondering if anyone else SIs in... patterns, I guess.

You're not a freak, honey, promise.
Most self injurers have a ritual. I have different rituals for different types of SI. For example, when I cut, I always do it on my rocking chair in front of a mirror. So I can relax and watch it bleed. Sometimes I wipe the blood on my face and just stare at my reflection for hours and hours. Then I go and take a shower, because the water makes the cuts sting more.

And I have different rituals for burning, but I won't get into those. They're really weird and personal.

But you are not the only one with rituals. And you are certainly not a freak.

I've put the blood on my face too, kind of like war paint.

I used to be very ritualistic about it, doing it in a certain way in the shower after I had done certain things. Sometimes carving words, sometimes just parallel lines and whatnot.
And I used to 'paint' with the blood, too, on myself or the shower wall, haha.
I really liked cutting in the shower...
Then I just did it whenever, wherever, however and it lost all sentimental value to me :(
