does anyone else use burning yourself (like with matches) as a form of SI as well? I used to just cut but I've branched to matches as well...

How about using candlewax or using a soft whip?
I used to have a large infrared heater on in the room that I would switch to maximum and sit near it so that I would sweat, or perhaps a sauna with lots of moisture making it hard to breathe might be less damaging but just as fulfilling as burning?

I've slapped myself in the face which isn't that painful but kind of... fun? In an "I'm totally crazy" sort of way?
I've thought about burning but my BF who used to SI (hasn't in like a year) got a screwdriver tip really hot and burned his arm... and it still hurts. Like a year later.
I stick with the cutting...

hon,
I'm never one to try to tell people what to do...but I believe making educated choices is so important so...
Please know that although cutting has it's dangers: burning is ten times worse. It is so easy to get an infection with burns...even from match burns...because of the way it bubbles up then pops... and becomes and open sore that it can cause serious damage...
Please try to refrain from burning if possible... I am saying this as someone who used to both cut and burn... Once I realized the effects I was really hooked...
But it can be incredibly damaging...
Hugs... ; )

+1 to that above post. I went through a phase of burning and biting my arms when cutting just wasn't making the cut anymore (pardon the pun, I can't help myself), when I really wanted to do something that would hurt and leave proper marks for a long time. Burns get infected so much more easily, and scar so much worse. Seriously, you can get blood poisoning. I've had my ear bent by two counsellors for an hour on this point.

I bruise and slap myself- no scarring. and I can just say the bruises are from my taekwondo training (accidents happen ALL the time)

I burn with cigarette butts and curling irons. The curling irons give me 1st or 2nd degree burns.
Usually the cigarettes give me 3rd degree burns and I never go to the doctor, I just wash and bandage them. some of them have gotten infected and it's not fun at all.
Cutting is dangerous, but burning is worse. I wish I never started.
