View Full Version : Personal Food Rules v. I NEVER eat...

I know that I like to set up a lot of food rules for myself, and say that certain foods are NOT okay under any circumstances. This is usually a progressive thing, so feel free to post a timeline, bullet points or a list. :)

No meat, cheese, or milk
No fast food or processed food
No fried foods
No mostly sugar/mostly salt foods
No white bread

I take care of most of my nutrition at home, and I keep my own fridge and "cupboard" separate from the rest of the house. I prefer to eat fruits in the morning, with maybe a slice of rye or wheat bread. In the afternoon, I'll have more fruit and some nonfat plain yogurt. Then in the evening, I'll have vegetables, and maybe some tofu or beans.

A lot of the items on the list are triggers for me (salty, sugary, white bread, cheese) and others I avoid, because they aren't very nutritious for the calories you get.

On my strict (PSMF) diet, I could not really have much of anything other than protein and water. Only trace sources of carbs and fat from the meat I ate and/or fiber and my fish, borage, and flax oil tablets.

However, on a normal diet, my "rules" are very similar to yours.

NO TRANS Fat
As less saturated fat as possible. (Preferably LESS than 7% of calories).
At least 20% of total calories from GOOD fats (mono and poly-unsaturated).
At LEAST 35g of (a good ratio of soluble and insoluble) fiber.
As low amount of total sugar (mainly ADDED sugar) as possible. I am more lenient with "natural" sugars such as fructose (fruit) and lactose (dairy).
At LEAST 25% of total calories from LEAN protein.
As LESS processed meats as possible (packed with sodium).
AS LESS artificial sweeteners as possible as well (sucralose, aspartame, etc..)

Those are just all the ones I can think of at the moment. :)

I count calories but dont really worry about carbs and fats. I do have strict rules though.

I don't eat before 4pm
I don't eat after 7pm
I don't eat more than 500 calories a day
I stay away from my binge foods
I drink at least 0.5l of green tea every day

I do not eat meat and I like cutting back on dairy&eggs as much as possible, too.

I do anything in my power to prevent myself from dealing with my binge foods.

And I don't know if it's exactly related to the topic, but I never sit down to have a normal dish. Like, on a plate. I always just have one or two bites on the way somewhere or just pick a handful of something - not exceeding my max daily calorie intake of course.

-in the morning i just have coffee and fruit/ dates for their fibre content
-for lunch am usually out and about town
-my main meal is dinner which could be anything: fish, hummous and whole wheat pita bread, a green salad with cheese, salmon pate and crackers (that was yesterday),
-on weekends I might have a meal at a restaurant with friends or get take out which i will usually purge :-P
-I drink on weekends and therefore will eat only fruit and milk (cherries, strawberries, pears and apples are my faves)

Thanks for all the replies everyone :)

Really? How do you keep track when you're just picking a bit of something?

I've found that if I try, I'll always over estimate how many calories I consume when "grazing", which can lead to me having more problems from starving myself. :S

Your list is similar to mine. I love white bread so I avoid it. I'm not addicted to meat, but I haven't give it up altogether.

Basically I never eat junk food. Chocolate bars, chips, doughnuts, fried fish, I can't stand deep fried battered foods, cold cereals, candies.

I've noticed that most 'kid' food is extremely unhealthy. I wonder why kids prefer junk food or marketing companies wish to make children fat.

My rules are rather similar.

*No dairy.
*No fast/fried food.
*No white bread
*As little sat. fat as possible.
*No mostly sugar/salt.
*FiberOne cereal everyday. (unless fiber amount has been achieved already)

1200 cal a day
1300 on a busy day (extra walking)

60g protein (just recently added this, lets see how it works out)
25g fiber

Eat at :
7:00 am (when I wake up for school)
11:00 am
3:00 pm
6:00 pm (if I can ,but no later than 7:00pm)

I don't seem to have as many rules :S. But the few that I do have are:

. NO CHOCOLATE [or anything that has chocolate in, or even a tiny bit, or even cocoa haha!] - It's been 41 weeks and 2 days since Ive eaten any :)
. NO SLICED BREAD - 41 weeks and 2 days again :)
. Always drink water in the morning, it's normally not hunger, but thirst.
. Always take a bottle of water out with me to drink durring the day
. Never go over 500 cals [unless my bf makes me :(]

Yeah, my two biggest weaknesses were chocolate and toast so one day I just decided to not eat them ever again, and it's worked :). I actally have nightmares that I'm drowning in melted chocolate haha!
